One of the true legends of lucha libre in the 1980′s & 1990′s, Pablo Fuentes Reyna also known as MS-1 one of the original Infernales with Satanico & Espectro Jr. passed away today in an auto accident. MS-1 debuted under his own name on July 12, 1978 and made enough of an impact early on the indy scene that he was signed by EMLL the next March. He was given a new gimmick called MS-1 and had a partner in MS-2 but he was so good that he was soon pushed as a singles wrestler not too long after. MS-1 had a Boba Fett from Star Wars type look going on and he rose up the rudo scale feuding with the top tecnicos of the day before having a mask match with Rayo de Jalisco Jr. on 7/2/82 with Rayo coming out victorious. EMLL loved his look so they wanted to get the mask off of him to show off his facial features and he became a rudo idol figure among the ladies. MS-1 would then launch into an legendary feud with Sangre Chicana that went for over 2 years basically and they had two of the greatest hair matches of the decade on 9/23/83 & 9/21/84 with MS-1 coming out as a loser in both but the matches were so great that he was still perceived a winner by the fans. During this time period, EMLL wanted to capitalize on the emerging popularity of the trios in UWA such as the original Los Misionarios de la Muerte (Negro Navarro/El Signo/El Texano) that they grouped up MS-1, Espectro Jr., & Satanico to become Los Infernales but they didn’t become legendary until Pirata Morgan took Espectro’s place to form the definitive version of the faction.

MS-1 still had singles success throughout this run though taking the NWA World Lt. Heavyweight Title on numerous occassions in classic matches with Ringo Mendoza, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., & Cien Caras but those matches were still overshadowed by the feud between Los Infernales & Los Brazos (El Brazo/Brazo de Oro/Brazo de Plata) over the newly created Mexican National Trios Titles over 1985 & 1986 but in October of that year, Pirata Morgan left the Infernales to form Los Bucaneros with his brothers Hombre Bala & Verdugo so he was replaced by Masakre and the Infernales kept going strong as Masakre & MS-1 tagged up together to take Mexican National Tag Titles from Cien Caras & Mascara Ano Dos Mil on 3/26/87 and held them for over a year before losing to Angel Azteca & Atlantis on 4/6/88. This was the beginning of the end of the Infernales as Satanico was becoming a singles star and Masakre & MS-1 started feuding with each other with MS-1 taking Masakre’s hair on 6/17/88. The definitive Infernales would ride again though in 1991 as Pirata rejoined MS-1 & Satanico and they became the first CMLL Trios Champions beating their old foes Los Brazos on 11/22/91 and then launched into a feud with Masakre who now was a member of another great trio in Los Intocables with Jaque Mate & Pierroth for the titles for the next year. This was a newish concept as it was rudos against rudos and these teams hated each other with a passion as they had some of the bloodiest brawls of the era. Brazos & Infernales kept going though as well during this time and their matches were as fierce as ever as well and this was considered part of the golden age of trios wrestling. MS-1 stayed loyal to EMLL throughout the boom of AAA in the mid 90′s as both Pirata Morgan & Satanico would cross over and comeback until 1996 when MS-1 finally left on his own terms actually joining AAA of all things under another gimmick as Kripter. His last high profile match was dropping his hair to rising star Hector Garza on 11/27/95 at Arena Puebla. MS-1 then went into a semi-retirement as he started promoting shows in Naucalpan and eventually just disappeared all together over the last decade although he has been teaching lucha libre at a school in Huamantla. MS-1′s triumps included taking the scalps of El Egipcio, Herodes, Negro Navarro, & Masakre and holding the NWA World Lt. Heavyweight Title on two occassions, Distrito Federal Heavyweight Title, Mexican National Trios Titles, & CMLL Trios Titles.

Descanse en Paz el Eme Ese Uno.

Averno had to do some damage control on Tuesday as the latest issue of Box y Lucha featured a cover story about Averno possibly leaving EMLL for Perros del Mal on New Years Day but he decided to stay with EMLL. Averno said that wasn’t the case and he has had no thoughts of leaving the place that he owns right now in a video made for CMLL.com but there have been rumors lately that he was backstage at AAA’s big Guerra de Titanes show last month in Guadalajara not to mention the WWE talk of the last year. Averno was rumored to have been revealed as the leader of the El Consejo faction.

Lázaro Gurrola Gallegos also known as Estrella Dorada Jr. who has been a Monterrey lucha mainstay for the last 10 years was arrested a few days ago for kidnapping and robbery of an employee from Casino Royale and is currently awaiting trial on the charges. Dorada who is only 26 categorically denied that he has done anything and believes he will be fully exonerated of all charges. If you remember, Casino Royale was the place that was almost blown up by Voltaje Negro and his gang last Summer and in another interesting sidebar, Dorada & Voltaje were tag partners for a while.

Volador Jr. stated today that he has been in constant training getting ready for his match against La Sombra for the NWA Historic Welterweight Title on 1/22 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on the joint EMLL/New Japan show. Volador said that he wants to be at the top of his game to prove to everyone that he is a worldwide star and is ready to break through in Japan. Volador knows he has a top flight opponent though as they have had some of the best matches of the past couple of years but he knows that he has the experience advantage and he will go to what helped him win the World X-Cup in TNA in 2008 and the Copa Bicentario in 2010.
